The ultimate dream of any home wellness enthusiast, modern whirlpool baths have no shortage of assets: they appeal with their design and practicality of use, as well as the variety of options available. But we are especially seduced by the long list of benefits of balneotherapy that we can now enjoy without leaving home: relaxation, tone, relief of joint or muscle pain, elimination of toxins, drainage, softening of the skin. It's hard to name all the benefits of freshwater massage!
But among all the spa bath models on the market, how do you choose the one that suits you the most? Here are our tips for creating a cocoon of relaxation just for you in your bathroom.
The different massage systems
Depending on the massage system, whirlpool baths are divided into three categories:
Air whirlpool tubs provide a relaxing and gentle massage. They are equipped with a blower which sends compressed air into the bath water via injectors installed on the bottom and back of the massage bathtub.
The whirlpool tubs with a water / air system are made for invigorating and stimulating massages. They have a pump that sucks the bath water and propels it, mixed with hot air, through side nozzles (also called water jets).
The baths with a mixed system offer a la carte energizing or relaxing massages. They are equipped with both a pump and an air compressor with side nozzles and also have injectors on the bottom of the tub. You can operate the two systems independently or simultaneously, for a complete hydromassage.
In all cases, the number of nozzles and their arrangement will be decisive for the quality of the massage. As a general rule, it is considered that for a complete massage you need at least a dozen nozzles distributed throughout the bathtub.
Person relaxing in spa bath
If you want to transform your bathroom into a real spa, know that there are models of balneotherapy bathtubs offering additional options:
Aromatherapy. A diffuser lets you diffuse essential oils or other aromatic plant extracts directly into the bath water, but also into the ambient air to multiply the effects of your whirlpool bath. Some oils will help you relax or fall asleep, others can tone or improve concentration.
Chromotherapy. A waterproof lighting system located at the bottom of the corner spa bathtub diffuses light of different colors, each with different properties. Blue, for example, releases tension, while yellow stimulates and revitalizes, etc.
Music therapy. The whirlpool baths can be equipped with a USB connection, CD, Bluetooth and a radio with speakers to play your favorite music.
Heater. This system helps maintain the initial temperature of the bath water - for your comfort and for water savings.
Sequential massage. On some models it is possible to program massage scenarios in several stages to promote blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Other amenities that make you more comfortable, such as a headrest, armrests or a water level sensor can also help.
